FringeArts commissioned and presented the 2008 world premiere of The European Lesson by Norwegian director Jo Strømgren, created in a five-week residency with Philadelphia actors. The show, performed in nonsensical Slovakian, nonsensical German, Esperanto, and Englislh, explored issues of perception, relation, and identity between Europeans and Americans and marked the first international commission by the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival. The production later toured to Norway with the original cast.
