FringeArts presented the US premiere of After the Rehearsal/Persona by director Ivo van Hove and his Dutch theater company, Toneelgroep Amsterdam, at the 2015 Fringe Festival. Garnering national media attention, including a positive review in The New York Times, the production reimagines two screenplays by Ingmar Bergman, though van Hove does not seek to recreate the films onstage; rather, he is interested in how these texts serve and inform the process of making live theater. "LIVE REMIX," a separate, daylong event led by Theater magazine editor Tom Sellar, considered van Hove's work alongside American contemporaries who also work with iconic films, digital sources, and archival video. This event included a roundtable discussion with American stage director Robert Woodruff, known for his large-scale theatrical adaptations of works by Fassbinder, Goddard, and Bergman; and a screening of van Hove's 2009 debut film, Amsterdam.
