The Mann Center for the Performing Arts will co-commission and present an immersive, evening-length work from the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company that explores the relationships between the individual and the larger community, performer and audience. Directed and choreographed by internationally renowned Bill T. Jones, whose honors include a National Medal of Arts and a MacArthur Fellowship, the new work will unfold in three sections, beginning with a solo by Jones, which evolves into an ensemble of ten professional performers, and finally expands into a group of 100 amateur and professional performers, including Philadelphia community members. The performance will be staged in the round, bringing audience members and performers together on stage in an intimate, shared experience reflective of the work’s key themes. The work is co-commissioned by Park Avenue Armory and will also tour to additional communities.
Additional unrestricted funds are added to each grant for general operating support.
