Crossing the Line Festival co-curator Simon Dove encourages artists to dance in unusual places. Why? Out of necessity, he says. During his visit to the Center in 2013, we asked him to elaborate.
About Simon Dove
Simon Dove is an independent curator and educator, and a co-curator of Crossing the Line, the annual trans-disciplinary fall festival in New York City. Dove was curator and artistic director of Springdance, the international festival of new developments in dance and performance in the Netherlands, from 2000–07. Prior to that he ran the Yorkshire Dance Centre in Leeds, one of the first National Dance Agencies in the UK, and was the founder and artistic director of Vivarta, the first contemporary South Asian performance festival in the UK. He was professor of practice and director of the School of Dance at Arizona State University from 2007–12.
