We asked Richard Torchia, Director of Arcadia University Art Gallery, “How do you think about curatorial integrity?” Here, he talks about the importance of small details and the value that he places on the audience’s trust. “As the stakes get higher,” Torchia says, “the expectations do increase so that you have a kind of contract with an audience.”
Richard Torchia is the director of Arcadia University Art Gallery, where he is at work on a Center-funded solo exhibition, Pati Hill: Letters to Jill—the first comprehensive show of Hill’s photocopy artwork. Torchia’s interest in the photocopier as an artist’s tool goes back to his first curatorial project, a 1983 group survey for the Princeton Art Museum. He was the recipient of a 1994 Pew Fellowship in visual arts.
