Mariam Ghani is a multi-media artist, writer, and filmmaker whose work spans video, sound, installation, photography, performance, text and data. She says her work "looks at places, spaces, and moments where social, political, and cultural structures take on visible forms." Ghani has exhibited and screened at the Guggenheim, Museum of Modern Art, National Gallery of Art, dOCUMENTA (13), Liverpool Biennial, and Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, among others. Her writing has appeared in Creative Time Reports, Frieze, and Foreign Policy, among others. Ghani is known for projects that engage with places, ideas, issues, and institutions over long periods of time, and she maintains long-term collaborations with choreographer Erin Ellen Kelly and composer Qasim Naqvi (Performed Places), artist Chitra Ganesh (Index of the Disappeared), and the Afghan Film Archives. She is currently a visiting scholar at the Center for the Humanities at the Graduate Center, CUNY, and a fellow at the New York Public Library; in fall 2018 she will take up a faculty appointment at Bennington College. Ghani served as a Center panelist for Exhibitions & Public Interpretation in 2017 and for Performance in 2016.
