A multifaceted retrospective of Mexican photographer Enrique Bostelmann (1939–2003) blends the artist’s experimental work with new interviews with his family, collaborators, and art historians to create an exhibition, bilingual documentary, and publication. Bostelmann first drew acclaim for his 1970 photobook America: un viaje a través de la injusticia, which documents the photographer’s Latin America road trips with his wife, capturing protest images during a time of political upheaval. In the ensuing decades, Bostelmann’s practice became known for its porousness, experimentation, and conceptualism. Featuring images from throughout Bostelmann’s career, the project examines how his work negotiates and transgresses boundaries across cultures, countries, and genres. 

The total grant amount represents project funding plus an additional 20% in unrestricted general operating support.

Founded in 1986 to promote the study of visual arts at Ursinus, the museum supports the college's educational mission across disciplines to cultivate curiosity and encourage exploration, critical thinking, and civic engagement.
