Co-production model for audience and income growth

The Wilma extends its commitment to a new co-producing model as it refines its collaborative processes and cultivates a strong network of partners. Informed by a pilot co-production with the Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in Washington, DC, during its 2023-24 season, the theater’s business planning work seeks to systematize methods for reducing production costs through expense-sharing and co-marketing, increasing earned revenue, and growing national visibility while maintaining the high quality of contemporary performance for which the Tony Award-winning theater is known.

The total grant amount represents project funding plus an additional 20% in unrestricted general operating support.

The Wilma Theater

Established in 1973, The Wilma Theater presents bold, original, well-crafted productions that represent a range of voices, viewpoints, and styles. In 2011, former artistic director Blanka Zizka founded the Wilma HotHouse Company as an incubator for artistic experimentation and a way to create long-term relationships and collaborations with local Philadelphia artists from diverse backgrounds. Beginning in 2020, the company established a new leadership structure with artists sharing artistic leadership in a cohort format.
