We asked choreographer Ralph Lemon to talk about ephemerality in relationship to his work in the dance field. He responded by discussing the complexity of memory, which he describes as “a space that continues to be fertile on its own” after the moment of the dance has passed.
Ralph Lemon, artistic director of Cross Performance, is a dancer, choreographer, writer, and visual artist dedicated to cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary work. He is the recipient of a 2012 Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, a 2009 Guggenheim Fellowship, and a 2009 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship for Interdisciplinary Work, among others. In 2012, he served as a Center dance panelist and an LOI panelist.
