Trapeta B. Mayson is a poet, social worker, and educator. Mayson is the 2020–2021 poet laureate of Philadelphia. Previously, she was executive director of Historic Germantown, a partnership organization serving 16 historic houses, destinations, and museums in Northwest Philadelphia that have joined together to protect, preserve, and share some of Philadelphia's historical assets. Mayson is the recipient of a 2014 Art and Change Grant and a 2007 Transformation Award from the Leeway Foundation. Her chapbook, She Was Once Herself, was released in 2012. Her work has been published in The American Poetry Review; Aesthetica Creative Works Annual Review; and MARGIE, The American Journal of Poetry, among others. A licensed clinical social worker, Mayson is a graduate of Temple University, Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, and Villanova University School of Business.
