Founded in 2013 by Michał Zadara, Centrala is a theater company based in Warsaw, Poland. Centrala's innovative ways of production, creation, and presentation have resulted in collaborations with Warsaw's Modern Art Museum, the Warsaw Uprising Museum, and the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, among others. In 2015 with Center support, Swarthmore College brought the North American premiere of Centrala's Chopin Without Piano, created by Zadara and performed by Centrala member Barbara Wysocka, to Philadelphia, with performances at Swarthmore and FringeArts.
Michał Zadara has created over 50 performances, installations, and independent films in Poland, Austria, Germany, Israel, and the US. A graduate of Swarthmore College and the Theatre Academy in Krakow, Zadara was the featured director of the 2008 Warsaw Theater Meetings Festival. He is the recipient of the Polityka Passport and Swinarski Awards, as well as the Silver Cross for Service from the President of Poland.
Barbara Wysocka is a graduate of the Theatre Academy in Krakow. She has performed and directed at the Stary Teatr in Krakow, Wrocław Contemporary Theatre, Polish National Opera, Schaubühne in Berlin, Germany, among many others. Wysocka is the recipient of the Polityka Passport Award.
