Travis Preston is dean of the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) School of Theater and artistic director of the CalArts Center for New Performance. Directing projects include the recent Prometheus Bound at the Getty Villa and Gertrude Stein's Brewsie and Willie and Macbeth with Stephen Dillane at REDCAT, a project also performed in London and Australia. Other international theater and opera projects include The Master Builder at London's Almeida Theater; Boris Godounov and Luigi Nono's Al Gran Sole Carico D'Amore at the Hamburg State Opera; and Lulu by Alban Berg, in collaboration with the Danish National Symphony with the Grønnegåde Theater. His work in the U.S. includes world premieres of Democracy in America and Terra Nova at the Yale Repertory Theater; the American premiere of Buero-Vallejo's The Sleep of Reason at Center Stage; and Astonished, a feature film. Upcoming projects include *The Long Road to Freedom *with Harry Belafonte. In 2008, the French Minister of Culture named him Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters. Preston served on the Center's Performance panel in 2014.
