Shulamit Ran, composer, pianist, and professor, joined the faculty of the University of Chicago in 1973, where she is now the Andrew MacLeish Distinguished Service Professor in the department of music, and artistic director of Contempo (formerly the Contemporary Chamber Players). Among her numerous awards, fellowships, and commissions are those from the Ford Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Guggenheim Foundation, the Fromm Music Foundation, Chamber Music America, the Serge Koussevitzky Music Foundation, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the American Composers Orchestra, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Baltimore Symphony, as well as a Pulitzer Prize. She served as a Center music panelist in 2012 and 2009, and a music LOI panelist in 2012.
