Philip M. Katz, Ph.D., is the director of projects at the Council of Independent Colleges. Previously, he was assistant director for research at the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), the country's largest association of museums and museum professionals. In addition to gathering data about the finances, operations and impact of the nation's museums, he served as a trendwatcher and analyst for the Alliance's Center for the Future of Museums. Before joining the AAM, Katz taught college history at Princeton and the University of Maryland University College, directed the New York Council for the Humanities, and worked as a researcher and consultant in the public humanities and higher education sectors. His publications include various research reports for AAM, an award-winning book on the Reconstruction era, and monographs on graduate training for historians. Katz was a Center heritage panelist in 2013.
