Melanie Joseph is the artistic producer and founder of the Foundry Theatre in New York City. She has collaborated on the creation of 18 Foundry premieres that have collectively been awarded 12 Obies and 7 Drama Desk nominations for Unique Theatrical Experience. Joseph is also the curator of "Foundry Dialogues," a series of standalone programs which, for over 20 years, has brought artists together with stakeholders from other communities to explore "what we mean to be as citizens of a world that we ourselves create." Johnson is a recipient of the Skirball Kennis T.I.M.E. Individual Artist prize, a Lucille Lortel Award for Artistic Producing, and has twice been awarded the Duke/Mellon Mentorship grant for mentoring "theater leaders of tomorrow." From 2004 to 2009, she was the U.S. president of the International Theatre Institute. Joseph participated in a 2010 panel at the Center, "Creating Site-Specific Theater," along with Michael Rohd of Sojourn Theatre in Portland, Oregon, and Anne Hamburger, co-founder of Big Heart Theatrical. She also served as a 2009 Center panelist in theater and a 2016 LOI panelist in Exhibitions & Public Interpretation.
Joseph participated in a 2010 panel at the Center, "Creating Site-Specific Theater," along with Michael Rohd of Sojourn Theatre in Portland, Oregon, and Anne Hamburger, co-founder of Big Heart Theatrical. She also served as a 2009 Center panelist in theater.
