Kimi Takesue

Kimi Takesue is an award-winning filmmaker working in documentary, narrative, and experimental genres. She is the recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship in film and Rockefeller Foundation Media Arts Fellowship. Her films have screened extensively at more than 200 festivals and museums internationally, including at the Sundance Film Festival, the Locarno Festival, the New Directors/New Films festival, South by Southwest (SXSW), and the MoMA. Takesue’s films have aired on networks such as PBS, IFC, Comcast, and SundanceTV. Commissioned by the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), her acclaimed Ugandan documentary WHERE ARE YOU TAKING ME? was chosen as a Critics’ Pick by Time Out New York and LA Weekly. Her recent, feature-length documentary, 95 AND 6 TO GO, was nominated for the 2017 European Doc Alliance Selection Award, and screened at over 25 international festivals. The film received Special Jury prizes for best documentary at the Los Angeles Asian-Pacific Film Festival, Austin Asian-American Film Festival, and the Indie Memphis Film Festival. In 2018, Takesue received the Breakthrough Award from Chicken & Egg Pictures, and she is a six-time fellow at both Yaddo and MacDowell. In 2018, Takesue served as a Pew Fellowships panelist at the Center.
