Jamillah James is curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA) and co-curator of the 2021 edition of the New Museum Triennial. Since joining the ICA LA in 2016, James organized the first solo institutional presentations of artists such as Abigail DeVille, Sarah Cain, Simone Leigh, Pew Fellow Alex Da Corte, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, and Charles Gaines. Prior to joining ICA LA, James was assistant curator at the Hammer Museum where she organized exhibitions and programs at Art + Practice, an arts and social services foundation in LA’s Leimert Park. She has held curatorial positions in New York, NY at The Studio Museum in Harlem and the Queens Museum and has produced exhibitions and programs at various alternative and artist-run spaces throughout the US and Canada since 2004. James served as a Pew Fellowships panelist in 2021 and 2016 and a Center LOI panelist in Performance in 2018.
