Gil Rose

Conductor Gil Rose's dynamic performances and many recordings have garnered international critical praise. In 1996, he founded the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the foremost professional orchestra dedicated exclusively to performing and recording symphonic music of the 20th and 21st centuries. Under his leadership, BMOP earned 15 ASCAP awards for adventurous programming as well as the John S. Edwards Award for Strongest Commitment to New American Music. In 2010, Rose was appointed Opera Boston's first artistic director and during his tenure, he also served as the artistic director of Opera Unlimited, a contemporary opera festival which he also founded. In 2012, he assumed the position of artistic director of Monadnock Music, which since 1966 has brought classical music of all periods, styles, and genres to the Monadnock Highlands of New Hampshire.

Rose maintains a busy schedule as a guest conductor on both the opera and symphonic world. He has led the American Composers Orchestra, the Warsaw Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra of the Ukraine, the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, and the National Orchestra of Porto, and he has made several appearances with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players. An active recording artist, his work has appeared on year-end "best of" lists of the New York Times, Time Out New York, The Boston Globe, NPR, and others. He is a three-time Grammy Award nominee. Rose was a Center management panelist in 2010.
