Cesar Garcia is the founding director and chief curator of the Mistake Room, Los Angeles. A curator, writer and educator, Garcia formerly served as the associate director and senior curator of LAXART (2007–12). In 2008 Garcia served on the curatorial team of the California Biennial and in 2012 he was one of the curators of Made in L.A. 2012, the first Los Angeles Biennial organized by the Hammer Museum and LAXART. Since January 2012, Garcia has served as the United States Commissioner for the 13th International Cairo Biennial in Egypt. He has curated a host of notable exhibitions and projects including Joel Kyack's freeway puppet theater, Superclogger (2010); a re-staging of Mark di Suvero's Artist's Tower of Protest for the Pacific Standard Time Performance and Public Art Festival (2012); the United States debut of Egyptian artist Wael Shawky's Cabaret Crusades at the Hammer Museum (2013); and artist Oscar Murillo's first institutional solo show in the United States, Distribution Center, at The Mistake Room (2014). Garcia is currently a Eugene V. Cota-Robles Doctoral Fellow at UCLA's Department of World Arts & Cultures/Dance, where he specializes in history and theory of museological, exhibitionary, and curatorial practices. He served as a Center exhibitions panelist in 2013 and a 2014 LOI panelist in Exhibitions & Public Interpretation.
