Arlene Shuler

Arlene Shuler is president and CEO of New York City Center, where she began her career as a dancer with the Joffrey Ballet. She serves on the advisory board of the Trust for Mutual Understanding and is a member of the Pocantico Committee of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. From 1990 to 2001, she worked at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts as vice president for planning and development and then senior vice president of planning and external affairs. She has served as dance program administrator at the National Endowment for the Arts and executive director of Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. In the field of philanthropy, Shuler has served as executive director of the Howard Gilman Foundation, deputy director of the Wallace Funds, president of General Atlantic Foundation, and vice president of Atlantic Philanthropic Service Company. In 2009, she was awarded the Capezio Dance Award in recognition of her significant contributions to dance. Shuler received a JD and BA magna cum laude from Columbia University. She was a Pew Center panelist in Performance in 2022, 2019, and 2014.
