Annie Polland is the president of the Lower East Side Tenement Museum in New York City. Previously, she was executive director of the American Jewish Historical Society from 2018 to 2020, executive vice president of programs and interpretation at the Tenement Museum from 2009 to 2018, and vice president for education at the Museum at Eldridge Street from 2004 to 2009. Polland's scholarly work investigates the religious life of Eastern European Jews in New York. Her published work includes Landmark of theSpirit: The Eldridge Street Synagogue (Yale University Press, 2009), Working for the Sabbath (Labor: Studies in Working Class History in America, Spring 2009), and May a Free Thinker Help a Pious Man?: The Shared World of the Secular and the Religious (American Jewish History, December 2007). Polland served as a Center panelist for Re:imagining Recovery grants in 2021, an LOI panelist in Exhibitions & Public Interpretation in 2014, a heritage LOI panelist in 2012, and a heritage panelist in 2010.
