This Philadelphia-based dance company is committed to making dances spontaneously, rigorously, in collaboration, and in connection with the moment. City Paper has described Stein's work as "extremely tactile, with an ever-present passion for exploration" noting that she often redefines "the space between stage and audience." Stein frequently creates dances for large outdoor or architectural sites—Bartram's Garden, 23rd Street Armory, and Eastern State Penitentiary, among others—where her sensual, loose style of moving contrasts sharply with the physical edges and parameters of each site. Her choreography is most often engaged with live music-making and her company has commissioned scores from composers including David Lang and Pauline Oliveros.
