Gate

Leah Stein worked on site at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia with her company to create Gate, a site-specific work which was performed at the penitentiary in June 2007. At the outset of the performances, audiences were split into four groups in order to follow specific performers throughout the site for the duration of the work, essentially creating four separate experiences. Performers and audiences converged at the conclusion of the performance. Percussionist Toshi Makihara and saxophonist Daniel Peterson played live during the piece, and visual artist Ed Dormer contributed video installations.
