Mum Puppettheatre premiered an adaptation of George Orwell's Animal Farm under the direction of Pew Fellow, Mum founder, and artistic director Robert Smythe and playwright Andrew Periale. Over the course of two years, the cast of five engaged in intensive training, workshops, and public presentations to develop a distinct physical vocabulary that integrated masks and puppetry into the work. The project culminated in a world premiere during the 2008 election season.
