Wright’s intricate world-building and ensemble-based approach to theater making consider the nature of groups, collective action, and the relationships among artists and audience members. Her works range from the massive—like Other Orbits, an immersive performance set on another planet, with its own ecology, government systems, and family structures—to the intimately miniscule, like Spiritual Experience, a private theater production performed for two audience members at a time. She emphasizes folk forms, domestic materials, and the “tactility of being human” in performances made with companies such as Arden Theatre Company, Theatre Horizon, and Applied Mechanics, of which she is a founding company member and artistic director. Wright earned an MA in performance and culture from Goldsmiths College and a BA in English and theater arts from the University of Michigan.
