Rachel Blau DuPlessis is a poet, essayist, and scholar. She was an English professor at Temple University from 1974 to 2011. DuPlessis is best known for the long poem Drafts, which she began in 1986 and published the final installment of in 2012. She has written several books, including Writing Beyond the Ending: Narrative Strategies of Twentieth-Century Women Writers and The Pink Guitar: Writing as Feminist Practice, and has edited many others. Her poetry and scholarly work has appeared in numerous anthologies, including Innovative Women Poets: An Anthology of Contemporary Poetry and Interviews and Poems for the Millennium, as well as publications like The Kenyon Review, Diacritics, and Contemporary Literature. DuPlessis has received grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Temple University, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and in 2002, she received the Fund for Poetry and the Roy Harvey Pearce/Archive for New Poetry Prize for lifetime contribution to American poetry and literary scholarship. She holds an MA and a PhD from Columbia University and a BA from Barnard College.
