Martha McDonald is an interdisciplinary artist whose performances and installations feature handcrafted costumes and objects that the artist activates through "gestures of making and unmaking and singing to transmit narrative," as she says. Her work has been shown internationally, at venues including Brotfabrik, Berlin, Germany; Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts, Melbourne, Australia; and Tamworth Textile Triennial, Australia. Nationally, her work has been included in exhibitions at The Joyce SoHo; Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; Fleisher-Ollman Gallery; Painted Bride Art Center; and The Woodlands; among others. A recipient of an Art & Change grant from the Leeway Foundation, McDonald has received fellowships from MacDowell; the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts; and Independence Foundation. She received a MFA from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. In 2016, McDonald participated in the Center-funded project, RAIR: Live at the Dump, for which she created the site-specific installation Songs of Memory and Forgetting at RAIR's recycling facility.
