Jeanne van Heeswijk is a Dutch visual artist whose work centers on the complex relationship between public space and urban renewal. Her work has been featured in publications and exhibitions worldwide, including the Liverpool, Shanghai, and Venice biennials. Van Heeswijk received the 2011 Leonore Annenberg Prize for Art and Social Change, the 2012 Curry Stone Prize for Social Design Pioneers, and in 2014 was awarded the inaugural Keith Haring Fellowship in Art and Activism at the Center for Curatorial Studies and Human Rights Project at Bard College. In 2016 with Center support, the Philadelphia Museum of Art collaborated with van Heeswijk to initiate a large-scale, two-phase project, Philadelphia Assembled, to explore the city’s changing landscape and bring to light stories of activism and community building.
