Her films include the feature-length Drylongso and Chronicles of a Lying Spirit by Kelly Gabron, a short that has been preserved by the Academy Film Archive. Her work has been exhibited at the Whitney Biennial, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Institute of Contemporary Art. Her awards and accolades include an Ellsworth Kelly Award, a Herp Alpert Award, and a 3Arts Chicago Artist Award.
Smith is also a professor at California Institue of the Arts. She earned an MFA in film from UCLA and a BA in creative arts from San Francisco State University.
