Bisi Silva was an independent curator based in Lagos, Nigeria. She was founder and artistic director of the Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos (CCA), and served as artistic director of ART X Lagos Art Fair—West Africa’s first international art fair (2016). Silva co-curated The Progress of Love, a transcontinental collaboration between the Menil Collection, Houston, TX; Pulitzer Arts Foundation, St. Louis, MO; and CCA (2012–13). She was a co-curator for the Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art, Greece (2009) and served as a curator for the Dak’Art Biennale, Senegal (2006). Silva was a member of the international jury for the PinchukArtCentre Future Generation Art Prize (2014), as well as the 55th Venice Biennale (2013). A frequent participant in international conferences and symposia, she published in journals and art magazines, including Artforum, Third Text, The Exhibitionist, and Art South Africa. Bisi Silva passed away in 2019.
